I just bought my house in S. Ca. There is a leak around the toilet and the floor is this blackish green. I don't know a good testing company or a good lawyer. I called my insurance company and they won't help. I am starting to get sick. What should I do?

First you should get some testing done on your house. I will e-mail you with some good people I know in Orange County. If you leave a message with your e-mail address.

What are your symptoms?
If your symptoms are severe, I'd get out of your home until you can find someone in your area to test and help treat the problem. Look in your local yellow pages. If you can't find an industrial hygentist, look for asbestos abatement. Usually they will be able to help.
Also you need to contact a contractor to find out how extensive the damage is.

You seen to be exhibiting classic symptoms of a respitory disfuncion or malady that may have its source in mold which may be toxic.

1) See an eye-ear-nose-throat specialist to verify your condition.
2) Call an atty or public adjuster who is familiar with the mold issues in CA. (happens to be the most examined state in the country)

3) Notify your insurance agent and company of your claim and advise thenm that your health prevents you from occuping the dwelling and request an Additional Living Expense advance (ALE Coverage) to relocate temporarly.
Also advise them that thier failure to promptly respond to your intial request has caused you to become ill and the bills are being forwarded to them.

4) Notify you lcal public health officials.

5) Call every TV , Radio and Newspaper that you can find and try and contact their health related people.

6) Write to your senators, congressmen, governer, Mayor, councilman, and any other offical you can think of.

7) RAISE AS MUCH HELL AS YOU CAN, they will listen.

Is there a specific smell (not just moldy) characteristic of the toxic black mold?

Thanks,

Has anyone ever heard about the air purifier (not a filter) that kills mold, mildew and bacteria, among other things? Yes, we sell them, but it's because of the proven technology and the tremendous need for it in homes everywhere.

You can take one of our units and place it say, in a bathroom, close the door and crank it up and it will kill the mold in your bathroom. You still have to clean, but the mold and mildew is no longer alive.

Anyone interested in further information and/or documentation about these products can take a look at our Website or e-mail us directly.

This is such a critical problem and our company has the solution...for real. We hope to hear from you so we can help.

I don't know what your legal needs may be in the future but my opinion is to buy a video camera and video tape every thing and keep a log. The insurance companies do resort to illegal tactics and break their verbal promises. So make sure you have everything documented.

Hello

I found this Mold Help on the toxic tort board and I sure am glad I did. Can anyone please help me here in PA with our problem. We bought a house in Dec. of 2000 only to have to leave by April of 2001, 4 short months in my dream home. We have many problems with what the owners did and sold to us but along with all the problems came many leaks through the roof into our house. My son is 19 and my daughter is 6 years old but on life support since birth, and I am 44. I called our insurance company to put the claim in the day it happened....they said I had to go through my agent...called our agent which happened to also be the sellers realator, which we had no clue about......he said ..not covered and hung up...I never dealt with any type of home owners or insurance issue so I just spent money trying to find the many problems of our house. A smell started that was not real bad at first but got stronger the next few days, at the time we were taking down a drop ceiling that was put up to cover problems. House tested positive for with 5 toxic ones. My daughter by this time was bleeding through her teeth and mouth and nose..she was very sick with breathing but due to her condition I was used to her taking a turn fast but this was not her norm, my son started forgetting things, rashes real bad, bleeding of nose and mouth, tumor like pumps in his throut ..many more, and I have the bleeding along with memory loss, vision loss, no feeling in one leg and hand..feeling of not being normal and many more. We left the day after our test came back after the EPA told us what could happen to my daughter, also house has aspestos throughout the downstairs.

Here is where I need help now please ,,,anyone.

We have been in hotel for the first 3 months then after spending 15,000 on hotel bills and medicine and clothes and baby items that she needs we had to go back and try and live in our back yard, this was not a good idea but we did not enter the house, it is very bad to go back as we soon found out. I forgot to tell you that 4 weeks after we tried to put our claim in we hired public adjusters, they said they would have us in hotel that day and they put the company on notice but we used our 4 day grace to get rid of them due to they never put us anywhere. Our insurance company would not pay a penny and have not paid anything, they sent out their adjusters, mold person, but they never tried to fix our problem in the month they got the claim and then waited 6 months to tell us that a check for 10,000 dollars was sent to start construction but they then sent out the mold guy after telling us to fix, we can not fix anything with this money nor can it fix our house. They sent us a mold remediation person who says the 5 rooms can be torn down and replaced with this amount. They still have not gotten their mold test back as yet so how can they send us only 10,000 to fix a house that can not be fixed. I have sent them letter after letter with updates on our health, on living, on we are broke and homeless and they need to make a decision now. That was in late August. We have not cashed the check but we only have a few days of money left to pay for room.
We have gone through 13,000 in lawyer fees to have nothing to show for it. Mold is not commen or heard of here in our area of PA. No lawyers for it that we can find. Please help.
I am sorry about grammer of this letter but I am working off of a dreamcast of my sons and it is so very different then computer.

Please any info would be of great help.

You need to contact an attorney immediately. If you need a referral please let me know what town you live in and I will attempt to match you up with someone near where you live. Mold in spite of the counter claims of insurance companies can be very dangerous to your family's healt.

HI
My husband and I just found out that we have moldinour house. We are not sure if it is black mold. It comes from 5 or 6 sewage backups and 2 rain floods while we have been here. Our landlord said that she was told my the Village's inspector's to paint over it and we have lived here for 2 years since then. The kicker is we have two children one is 6 months the other is 5. The landlord just came by today to look at the wood under the drywall he said that it has to be replaced but he is not going to do it while we are living here. They also say the floods are our fault and thay have never halped to clean them up. We use a wet/dry vac and bleach but I don't think that is enough. The mold is also now in our upstairs bathroom so we are not sure how far it has spread. I guess we need some advice.

I just came across this and have found much of the information very useful.. Here is my story.. We have 2 children (6 & 2) who have had numerous health problems.. We found mold in the basement area and have since left the house.. Of course our insurance won't cover it, since it is an exclusion.. We have contacted an attorney, but he isn't that familiar with mold damage. We have also contacted a number of attorneys online, but again no one seems willing to give us any support.. We live in upstate NY, (near Syracuse) and would appreciate any help from someone nearby.. We are currently staying at the Residence Inn, and they have given us a discounted rate to stay (Can't say enough good things about them).. We have some people coming out today to look into how bad it is, and get some ideas of what cleanup will cost.. I will keep you posted on how it goes.
If you have anything you feel will help, please email me at kenklawiter@yahoo.com.. Thanks again for providing a valuable service.

Ken

8) Does anyone know another physician who does DNA testing other than Dr. Michael Gray who the author of this Mold Help seems to know?

I assume you had it inspected first? Didn't the inspector notice it?

Be carful if you cash the Check. Sometimes Lawyers and Courts Interpret that as payment in full. Talk to a lawyer and make sure the check does not say "payment in full".

!. Test the house before you call Lawyers.

2. See a Toxicologist or a Envirnmental Doctor and ask for blood test to check for Mold Antibodies.

Are those units different than an ionizing air purifier? The inspector we had saw we had an air purifier with an ionizing feature and told us to get rid of it that it was bad for our health. He told us to buy Honeywells or some other ones with no ionizers. So....that's what we did. Maybe he was wrong???? Need to know.

Anyway, as I asked, are your units different and if so can you explain the difference. We now have some Airfree units in our home as well as 3 air purifiers and the Airfrees are supposed to kill mold spores, dust mites, bacteria, viruses, etc. The only problem is they do not have a fan and it is a passive system and do not pick up dust or anything larger than 0.3 microns if I remember correctly. It has a 400 degree core that kills but it does not get cold outside the unit, only warm. However, I do not know if all mold mycotoxins are killed off or only some species. I think all the spores are killed though. Thats another thing I wonder about -- I heard dead mold can be toxic also. Maybe you could shed some light on that as I could use some guidance with mold spores.

Thanks.

The point of the ion deal is to electrically charge the dust and mold particle so they cling together, become heavier and drop out of the air, onto the floor. Of course what happens then? If you don't vacuum with a HEPA vacuum, they just get spread back around again.

The ozone air purifiers make 03 which is oxygen with an extra molecule attached, it is unstable and wants to get rid of that extra O molecule. So that O molecule gloms onto whatever it bumps into and changes the structure of whatever that is. Typically this is how odors and smoke smells are gotten rid of.

The best air scrubbers are basic HEPA filter models that pick up spores. The filters last a long time, and as they fill up, they become more efficient not less....The fan works less hard with a full filter anyway.
