I suspect mold may be growing in the dirt in the crawlspace. I'm having the vapor barrier re-done to seal off the dirt as much as possible, but it can never be 100% sealed.

Is there any chemical that can be put into the dirt to kill and prevent mold growth?

Mold needs air, water, and food. Unfortunately, there's always some air (since it's not 100% sealed), and some moisture wicked up from underground. And organic matter seep into the dirt from backyard serves as food.
